Originally trained as a graphic designer with a First degree in Visual Communications, Fabien Ho’s personal interest is in the exploring of our ongoing & evolving sense of identities.
His 2010 exhibition ‘Wanderlust – To & From’ captured shop-keepers, tailors, guardsmen, housekeepers & tribesmen from Morocco to Egypt, India & Peru – A catalogue of compelling portraits from people whose identities are firmly rooted in the places & roles in which they are born into & belong.
In 2011 Fabien’s work explored the synonymous relationship between dogs & their owners. Capturing the unmistakable symmetry in expression and the close bond between dog & owner, his portraits conveyed the evolving of relationships and identities; full of mutual adoration & joy, whilst deeply interdependent of one another.
Currently, Fabien’s images for Taking Part is a natural evolution at looking into the sportsmen & women whose passion for their chosen sport identifies them as who they are today; professional canoeists, Olympic competitors, national championship skaters. In all cases however, theirs is an identity independent of where they come from or indeed, what their parents did before. Instead it is one of their own choosing, via a sport they’ve devoted their lives to.
