Matt Scandrett is a photographer from Walthamstow, where he grew up and went to school. His initial interest in photography stemmed from his passion for travel and wildlife, however he has increasingly become interested in both documentary and street photography. From 2007 to 2008 he was part of a photographic collective which undertook a year long community project, ParkLives, which culminated in a summer long exhibition at the William Morris Gallery. This led to further collaborations with Waltham Forest Council including the Lest We Forget exhibition at Vestry House Museum. He has also had solo shows in Tokyo and London, including most recently, A Lo Cubano, which documented life in Cuba in the days leading up to the 50th anniversary of the Revolution. Matt’s work has been published in The Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian and in various wildlife publications. In 2008 he was runner-up in the documentary category of the Digital Camera Magazine Photographer of the Year Award and was a finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards in 2010.
He has just published his first book, The World Is Yours, a collection of travel photography released to accompany his 2011 exhibition of the same name at Beyca Retro, Walthamstow.
